The physiotherapist will complete a thorough initial assessment of each client. Following a detailed history, formal assessment of the mother may include, but is not limited to, range of motion of relevant joints; assessing back and abdominal strength; postural assessment, including spinal and pelvic alignment and foot posture; and any other additional details specifically related to the individual (eg. diastisus rectus, SI joint dysfunction). Fitness testing may include muscular strength and endurance testing, if appropriate. Infant screening will include an observational assessment of the baby’s movement, active and passive neck range of motion and assessing facial symmetry and head shape. Goal setting will be developed with the client to ensure a client-centered approach. At the completion of the treatment plan, the physiotherapist will re-assess the client to determine if progress has been made and to set new goals.
Assessments will be performed at Calgary Youth Physiotherapy between 9 am and 3 pm on Wednesdays. If you are unable to attend on a Wednesday, please call to make alternative arrangements.
*Please note that pelvic floor assessments will not be performed in this assessment. However, clients will be screened and referred on as appropriate.
